We need some ideas on who you would like to see perform at the festival. Any thoughts? |

I would personally enjoy having attendees perform at the festival, and we could hold auditions via youtube to ensure the quality of the performers! I would also enjoy seeing ocarina makers who attend the festival perform on their ocarinas! |

I too, like the idea of attendees getting a chance to perform. I would also like to see professional performances by Tingstad and Rumbel (www.tingstadrumbel.com), Cornell Kinderknecht (www.cornellk.com) and others who play for the love of it at a professional level. And of course a makers performance would be fun too! So, I guess I would see it on different stages at different times-professional performances for an evening concert. Amateur performances on a daytime venue on and off throughout the day and makers...maybe just at their vendor booths, or maybe rotating onto the amateur stage as well...I would like to have an amateur contest of some sort-what do you think? |

Something like a performing circle where we all get tabs or instructions on how to play the same song might be a fun idea. |

I think its a great idea to have a song many can play. I make four hole ocarina music and I would be happy to create the song sheets if you'd all like. The question becomes "What Song?". I even propose that we make a youtube video of the song as a way for people to practice before they come so some will already know it. I am also going to be bold and vote we play in the key of "D". Main thing in key of D I can think of right now is Across the Universe by the Beatles. Other Fun Songs on my mind are Funiculi Funicula (though it falls outside the range of a pendant...) Greensleeves |

I'm going to go listen to that one! The powers that be could pick any song inside of an octave though, and we can just transpose it into D. I'm having a daydream about Daniel Schmidt and company play accompaniment live. I haven't mentioned a word to him yet though and this is still all just brainstorming. |

I also have sheet music/guitar tabs for Across the Universe if people end up wanting that one. The sheet music wouldn't be too terribly hard to convert into ocarina tabs, or just distribute. |

There will be a main stage where someone like Nancy might play, and there will also be a more public stage in the park on Friday, from 3-6. That is plenty of time to fit in just about everyone. I'm starting with local musicians I know (and myself) and a local Ocarina Club (well, their sort of my club, but there you go). I've offered time onstage to any volunteers from the Forum. I'm also going to do my best to get time from the fine ocarina players on staff. I know there will still be plenty of time for many other players. I think I may listen to people casually during the day, and then ask them if they will perform. Those who are comfortable performing will be doing so to share in the meet/greet/swap. I find street music best culled from the street. I would be sorry to entice someone to travel a long way just because they wished to perform. Last but not least, I would invite whomever was interested in playing and see how many there were. Time wise, at this point, I don't see needing to turn anyone away, but I could call it an "audition" just to weed out any nut cases. I am open to all comers, three hours is a long time. I'm also open to feedback about my methods. Here is another idea can we do live streaming from the Meet/greet/swap ect.? It would add international flavor and let the folks who can't travel here get a taste anyway. Could it be part of something like OcarinaSlam.com that includes links to participants in video and links? We seem to be getting some web support, how can we include them? |
